Instructional leadership encompasses
four important criteria; communication, academic rigor, student engagement, and
a student-first attitude. Instructional leaders should be able to balance the
responsibilities of building manager and building leader seamlessly while
making students, staff, and parents feel valued, and respected upon entering
the building each day. An exemplary instructional leader communicates
regularly, focuses on academic rigor, encourages active student engagement, and
keeps students at the forefront of all decisions. This type of leadership will
create collegial relationships, promote academic excellence, and create a
district that all parents will want to send their students to. This in the type
of leader I strive to be.
Hi Kylene. I enjoyed reading about your educational leadership philosophy. Your idea of how instructional leaders should act is spot on! I too believe that school leaders should make all staff, families, and students feel valued. Doing that alone would create a positive environment and help everyone be more successful.
